Trisonics Prepares Ultrasound System for Tanzanian Hospital

Yesterday, Trisonics was pleased to host Samwel Ogoya, Director of Maintenance and Projects for Shirati Hospital in Tanzania. With help from the Friends of Shirati Organization based out of Lancaster, PA, the hospital is receiving an ultrasound machine for their facility that has been donated by a local doctor. Trisonics prepared the machine for the hospital, making sure everything was in clean and ready for the system’s trip to Tanzania.  Samwel spent the day working with Trisonics' Technical Service Coordintor John Steffen and Test Engineer Fred Hui so that he could learn in how to use and maintain the machine once it reaches Shirati.

The Shirati Hospital was founded by Mennonite Missionaries to Tanzania in the 1930’s to combat malaria, dysentery, and tropical fevers. Since then, the hospital has grown to become a modern facility with a nursing school and a research laboratory. The hospital also operates four remote clinics to further serve the needs of the region’s population. Expatriate doctors and nurses have helped for many years training local personnel. Tanzanians now staff all areas of the hospital with several consultants present in supporting roles.

The Friends of Shirati began in the 1970s when a group of employees from Lancaster Hospital began raising money for medical supplies to be sent to Shirati. Over time, they began raising larger funds and registered as an official nonprofit organization to further help with the modernization and renovation of Shirati Hospital. Since its formation, Friends of Shirati has enabled over 100 doctors, nurses, nurse educators, hospital administrators, church leaders, and support personnel to live and work at the hospital through their financial support.

Trisonics is proud to donate our time and expertise to help Shirati Hospital continue to provide top-quality health care to the people of northern Tanzania.
